Achieving Grant Efficiency with a Conservation Education Organization

In 2024, the Catalina Island Conservancy hired Proffer Grant Consulting to audit their grants department to enhance systems, processes, and procedures with grant best practices, identify the best-fit funding opportunities for portfolio development, and formulate funder relationship engagement strategies.

Our approach involved surveying current processes, recommending new grant management systems, researching competitive awards, and developing a comprehensive funder engagement strategy. By the end of the six-month project, we successfully achieved:

• Organizational adoption of enhanced systems and procedures following grant best practices

• Development of a 12-month grant funding strategy with immediately actionable opportunities

• Completion of a Master Grant Narrative document for staff use in any upcoming application

• Implementation of a presidential corporations and foundations list with leadership engagement strategies
